Laurel Arts and the Somerset Historical Center are partnering for a second year to present a wide variety of historical and contemporary fiber arts techniques and information to the public during a one-day symposium. This event, entitled "Common Threads," will take place at the Somerset Historical Center on Saturday, April 21st, 2018, from 9:00a.m. until 4:00p.m.
Keynote speakers include Sally Fink, who will be explaining her handmade historical garments, fantasy costumes and dolls, and lecturer Mike Taylor will be sharing his expertise on the history of spinning wheels and devices. He is a collector of spinning wheels and co-author of the Spinning Wheel Book. These guest speakers will be featured along with many regional fiber artists who will be displaying and/or selling their art, demonstrating specific techniques, or providing hands-on activities for participants. There will also be a special quilt exhibit and sale as well as a food truck on the grounds.
Tickets for this event are $5 each and can be purchased in advance by calling Laurel Arts at (814) 443-2433. Act 48 credits will be available to teachers who attend this event.
