Summer Camps
Policies:
Laurel Arts accepts master card, visa, checks and cash.   You may register via phone or feel free to mail us your registration for a class along with your payment.  just note the class title on the memo line of your check to assist us.




Classes that do not have the minimum number of students registered will be canceled.   Please try to register at least one week prior to the start of the class. 


Laurel Arts' members receive a 20% on classes and workshops.  if you would like to receive information about Laurel Arts membership, call us at (814) 443-2433 or stop by the art center.  Any of the staff will be happy to talk with you.

If schools are on a 2 hour delay, all classes before 12:00 noon will be cancelled.  If schools are cancelled, all classes for that day will be cancelled.  If you are in doubt, feel free to call Laurel Arts at 443-2433.

Beginner Ballet, Tap

Have a little one who wants to try out dance?  This is a great way to see if they would like to dance before committing to the full dance year.  This class is located at the dance center.  Dancers do not need to wear leotards & tights.  Shorts & t-shirts are acceptable.  We do have a selection of used shoes up at the dance center if you would like to borrow a pair for class.

Ages:  4-5
Time:  5:15 - 6:00 p.m.
Ages:  6-7
Time:  6:00-6:45 p.m.

Dates:  Tuesdays, June 3 - July 15 (6 weeks)

Cartooning with Kayla!
Kayla Kennell

Students will be taught basic techniques used in comic strips and comic books.  They will use fundamentals of line, countour, shading and perspective.  Students will also learn how to draw a humans as a cartoon. 

Date:  Tuesday, May 20th, 2008 for four weeks
Time:  5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Beginning Photography for Kids
with Loretta Knopsnyder

Do you have a budding photographer in the family who desperately wants to take all of the pictures at family events.  Do you have a LOT of out of focus pictures or photos of things you just can't identify when they are done?  Well, this is the perfect class for kids to learn the basics of photography as well as learn about how to properly use the camera. 

Begins: Monday, May 12th for 3 weeks (there will be a break for Memorial Day)
Time: 6-7:30 p.m.
Class fee:    $21.60 members/$27 non-members
Materials: A camera and your camera’s manual, film or digital media. Students will be responsible for having their prints developed.

Mythological Creatures
Donna Housel

Drawing and shading techniques with a "fanciful" twist. 

Date:  Saturday, June 14th
Time:  12:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Class Fee:  $14.40 Member/$18 Non-member
Ages:  9 and up
Materials:  Students should bring a variety of paper, colored pencils, & any reference materials they'd like.

Adult Workshops


Joy Of Oil Painting!


A completed oil painting in just one day?  Yes, it really is possible.  You'll learn how to use the Bob Ross wet on wet technique while completing a 16 x 20 painting.  Learn some tried & true methods while designing a landscape of mountains, water, sky & clouds using basic brush & paint knife techniques.

Instructor:  Al Just (certified Bob Ross instructor)

Dates/Times (each date is a separate workshop):
Sun., June 15th:  12  Noon - 5:00  pm
Sat., July 26th:  11:00 - 4:00 pm
Sat., Aug. 16th:  11:00 - 4:00 pm


Class Fee:  $21.60 Member/$27 Non-member (per class)
Material Fee$30 payable to Laurel Arts IN ADVANCE.  This covers paint, brushes & cleaners.  Students are asked to supply their own 16 x 20 canvas, paper towels & baby wipes.
NOTE:  Each class will produce a different painting.  These classes fill up very fast, so register early to secure a spot.

Quick & Easy Cards
  with Laura Schrock

In this class you will use beautiful, decorative paper & self adhesive die-cuts, along with rubber stamps, to create several cards that deliver a special message to all that received them.  You will be delighted with how quick & easy they are!!  This is the last card class until fall.  Be sure to sign up soon!!

Container Gardening
with Sheila Croushore

Spring is in the air and it's time for gardening.  Come learn what  plants are best to use in a container garden.  Students will also make their own hypertufa trough to use for planting.  (This trough mimics the English garden trough, but is made from lightweight materials.)

Take a Field Trip
with Your Camera
Loretta Knopsnyder

A fun, hands-on workshop to a "mystery" location.  Students will learn to look at landscapes from "different" perspectives and not get the typical picture.  Come prepared to hike!

Time: 2:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Materials: Bring your favorite camera.
Colored Pencil
with Mylar Film

Students will be taught basic techniques of shading with colored pencil using mylar film.

Herb Garden to Table

Come learn all about herbs and how to make your own herb vinegar, salad dressing & rubs.

Braided Rug Making
with Lisa Meyers


Create an herirloom with found wool garments.  Learn how to identify suitable materials, choose color combinations to suit your tastes, how to tear stips, braid and sew braids together.  You'll receive abundant trouble shooting tips.

Dates: Thursdays, starting June 5th for 5 weeks
Time: 6:00 - 8:00 pm
